READING
This week in reading we will focus on the next component of Daily 5: Read to Someone. Students will practice reading with a partner and checking each other for comprehension and accuracy. By reading with a partner, students can hold each accountable for doing their best and making sure they understand what they are reading. Our focus during this time is that the children become fluent and expressive readers. We will continue to build up our individual reading and writing stamina with Read to Self and Work on Writing!
WRITING
In writing, we are working on writing stories from our hearts or from things we know. We are setting up our Writer's Workshop and taking each student through the writing process steps.
Our grammar study will focus on nouns. We will continue spelling this week and students will have different levels of lists based on their performance on the pretest. The assessment will be on Friday.
MATH
This week, we will be learning about place value...camping style! We'll be exploring Base Ten'ts and sorting S'mores--all while learning about place value through 999. We will also be working on putting numbers in order, recognizing greater or lesser values, and using the greater than and less than symbols. Homework will be a worksheet titled "Reading and Writing Numbers to 999" and will be due Wednesday.
SOCIAL STUDIES
It's Freedom Week! At the beginning of the week, we will be learning the meaning behind the Constitution and the Pledge of Allegiance. We will also be learning about mapping--including oceans, continents, and cardinal directions. Our week will end with a study of various land forms.
THANK YOU
Thank you for attending Parent Night. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you for all the treasure chest items and donations to make this classroom run smooth! It wouldn't happen without you!
MILLION WORDS OR LESS
The "Million Words or Less" parent homework was sent home at the beginning of September. This is my favorite parent input piece because I love being able to see your child from your perspective. I am excited to get to know your child, build a relationship with them and watch them grow. You know your child better than anyone else, so in a million words or less, please tell me about your child. You may include whatever information you feel is important for me to know.
If you would prefer to send it via email, that is fine as well. If you feel led, share your letter with your child. It can be an amazing moment for them to hear how much you care and love for them.
Remember ……. No more than 1,000,000 words! :)
REMINDERS
I will be out on Friday afternoon and the wonderful Mrs. Barnes will be my sub.
Wednesday, September 19 is Early Release Day! Students will be dismissed at 12:45. Each bus will run normally.
We started our normal library schedule last week. Starting out, please help your child remember to bring his or her books back so that he or she can check out new books. If your child is done with the books before Tuesday, please send them back, and I can send him/her to the library during a free moment. Our Library day is Tuesday.
Skate Night is coming up the next week! Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 27th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
