Oct. 15-19

WRITING
We are starting a new story this week! This story will focus on a time when we were sick. We will be thinking of details that tell our readers how we felt, what we couldn't do, and what made us feel better. If you could talk through or brainstorm previous "sick moments" with your child, it will help them be prepared for this fun writing assignment.

READING
This week, we will be learning about story elements. We will look at several different stories and pick out the main characters, the problem, and the solution. As always, students will continue in their guided reading groups and Daily 5 rotations. It's almost time for the groups to be changed up and I have seen great progress with each student.  I look forward to hearing what progress we will make with our new groups!

MATH
This week, we will learn several subtraction and problem solving strategies. For example, we will be learning how addition problems can help us with subtraction. We will discover the fun of Fact Families! We will have an assessment covering addition and subtraction strategies on Friday.

SCIENCE
At the beginning of the week, we will finish our unit on physical and chemical changes. Students will be assessed on Tuesday. We will then begin focusing on magnetic energy.

REMINDERS
Give a Hoot Picnic is on Thursday, October 18th at 5:30 pm. See you there!
