Oct. 22-29

WRITING
It will be a Halloween Fest of fun in writing this week! We will be making a Frankenstein or pumpkin character and then using adjectives to describe him/her in a descriptive paragraph. Our creative juices will be flowing!

READING
We are beginning our Trick or Treat Book Reports this week. Students will be writing about different parts of their chosen book including the problem, solution, climax and favorite part. Please send the book to school with your child on Monday. The book will stay at school for the week. If you need a picture of the character, I would suggest taking a quick picture for at-home use.

MATH
This week, we are beginning our study of money. In second grade, students are expected to count a collection of coins. Please provide your child with opportunities to count coins at home. The strategy we will use in class will be to start with the coins of the largest value, and then count on. For example, if they have a quarter, dime, and nickel. . . they will line the coins up from largest to smallest in value, and then count 25, 35, 40. . . for an answer of forty cents.

SCIENCE
At the beginning of the week, we will conclude our study of energy. We will look at different materials and notice how light shines through some but doesn't shine through others. Later in the week, we will be looking at how things move and if they roll, slide, or spin.

REMINDERS
I will be out Oct. 26th and 29th for my cousin's wedding in Virginia.  The wonderful Mrs. Lieurance will be my sub.
