Feb. 25 - Mar. 1

WRITING:
Our poetry books are finished and I hope you enjoy the imagery, rhythm and mood your child has created with each poem they wrote.

This week, we are creating our own Mr. or Miss Potato Heads!  Not only are we designing them, we are descriptively writing about them.  With the help of our transitional words, we will write paragraphs giving hints about what our character looks like while the class looks at all the Potato Heads and tries to guess which is which.

We will work on spelling patterns of plurals (-f to -ves & -y to -ies) and will have a spelling check on Friday.

READING:
Building on our discussions of theme and morals, we will add cultural origin into the mix.  The students will learn that certain cultures write about specific values:  being quick witted, beauty of nature, respect, and many more.

MATH:
The students only think we are 'moving on' from regrouping.  We are revisiting money and adding it up.  Since we are experts at regrouping and word problems, we will just make money our subject to add and subtract!

Towards the end of the week, we will switch to telling time.  The students will be given opportunities to show their knowledge of how the hour hand moves slowly to the next number as the minute hand moves quicker around the entire clock.  Between bingo and making human clocks, time will fly with the fun we will have!

SCIENCE:
The sun has set on objects in the sky and we are learning about the water cycle!  We will learn the different stages of the water cycle and put it to music.  Our knowledge will be put to the test when we have Dowser Dan come for a visit on Friday!
